Does UVA meet 100% of demonstrated need? ›

We meet 100% of financial need.

UVA meets the demonstrated financial need for all in-state and out-of-state students applying by the annual March 1st deadline, through a combination of scholarships, grants, work-study and need-based loans.

UVA is one of the most competitive public universities in the country. The general admission rate for the class of 2026 was about 18%. It's important to keep in mind that UVA strives to serve Virginia-based students first and fills a majority of its class with Virginia residents.

UVA EARLY ACCEPTANCE RATE

Of the 4,465 ED applications, 1,133 were accepted (25.38 percent).

When thinking about how to get into UVA, you should make sure each part of your application—your GPA, test scores, and UVA supplemental essays—is top-notch. This means keeping your GPA high, studying well in advance to ensure strong UVA SAT scores or ACT scores, and building up your extracurriculars.

We have pledged to maintain a 2/3 majority of Virginia residents in our student population, but 2/3 of our applicants tend to come from out-of-state. As a result, our offer rate for Virginia residents tends to be much higher than the rate for out-of-state students.

Does UVA care about interest? ›

The University of Virginia (UVA) does not track demonstrated interest in their admissions process. So you don't have to worry about attending events, contacting the admissions office, or other methods to demonstrate your interest in UVA.

Average GPA: 4.32

The average GPA at UVA is 4.32. (Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA. With a GPA of 4.32, UVA requires you to be at the top of your class. You'll need nearly straight A's in all your classes to compete with other applicants.

There really is no typical number accepted off the waitlist; it has varied from none to more than 20 percent of the entering class.

For EA students, we see the courses in which a student is enrolled as a senior, but no grades. For RD students, we get mid-year grades in February, so we also see how well a student is doing in their senior courses.

AccessUVa is the financial aid program for the University of Virginia. It guarantees 100 percent of the demonstrated financial need of undergraduate students, all of whom are admitted on a need-blind basis.

We've extended our current test-optional practice for two years. If you're applying for admission for Fall 2024 or Fall 2025, you'll have the choice of sharing or not sharing results from the SAT and ACT.
