Delisted FPS Games Might be Returning with PS5 and Xbox Series Ports (2025)

Summary

  • Doom Slayers Collection, featuring 4 Doom games, may return on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S after being delisted in 2024.
  • ESRB ratings suggest a return of the collection on current-gen consoles, excluding Switch and last-gen consoles.
  • Doom: The Dark Ages, a highly anticipated prequel, is set for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025.

A compilation of four different Doom games, Doom Slayers Collection, may be returning with new PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports after being delisted in 2024. The FPS game collection features remasters of the original Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, and the 2016 series reboot simply titled Doom.

There are not many games that go on to influence a genre as much as 1993's Doom influenced the first-person shooter genre. The id Software-developed title was one of the first games to boast features like 3D graphics, multiplayer matches, and support for user-created mods. It not only became a resounding success at launch but also spawned a highly popular franchise that ranges from video games to live-action films. The IP's immense significance in gaming is also a reason why it was considered for a Secret Level crossover episode that unfortunately never came to be. However, what seems likely to be materializing is the return of a Doom game compilation whose digital version was taken offline in August 2024.

The Doom Slayers Collection, originally released in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, could be making a comeback soon. The compilation has received an age rating of "M" from ESRB, revealing its potential arrival on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. While ESRB's website lists these two consoles alongside PC as the target platforms, there is no mention of Switch or the last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, suggesting that these systems may not get the digital version of the Slayers Collection back. Moreover, interestingly, Doom 64 was recently rated by ESRB for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, which also adds weight to the chances of the compilation's return. That's because the physical edition of Doom Slayers Collection came bundled with a download code for the remastered version of Doom 64.

Games Included in Doom Slayers Collection

  • Doom
  • Doom 2
  • Doom 3
  • Doom (2016)

It's worth noting that, previously, Doom and Doom 2 had also been delisted from digital stores ahead of their re-launch as Doom + Doom 2, a combined package that brought the classics to PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Similarly, a Doom Slayers Collection return targeting current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles won't be surprising but instead consistent with publisher Bethesda's pattern in the past. Further, this would also fall in line with id Software's practice of porting its existing games portfolio to current-gen consoles as previously witnessed in Quake 2's case.

Besides a possible re-launch of Doom Slayers Collection, fans of the franchise have a highly anticipated Doom prequel to be excited about. Doom: The Dark Ages is scheduled to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025, bringing a refreshing medieval take on the long-running sci-fi series.
